Captain Rizk’s top-5 horror themed casino slots

With Halloween just around the corner I thought this would be a great moment to share my top-5 horror themed casino slots. I was going to ask Lucky the Super Dog for his favourites, but for a canine he’s quite the scaredy-cat when it comes to horror movies and slots. Last time I tried to enjoy a couple of games he ran and hid behind the sofa. Personally, I quite enjoy a good scare. It keeps me on my toes.

If you want to get right into the thick of things, I suggest you head over to the Halloween promotion and Rizk Race for your life. It’s a real nail-biter with more than €85,000 in total prize money to play for.

Anyway, these are the five scary casino games that I love best – in no particular order. Click on any of the titles to get there faster:

The Invisible Man
The Creature from the Black Lagoon
Dracula
Immortal Romance
7 Sins

The Invisible Man

I wish invisibility was one of my powers. It would make my life as a superhero so much easier. Ah well, after reading H.G. Wells’ original science fiction novella “The Invisible Man” from 1897, I’m not so sure. The story puts a mad scientist in focus and tells the story of how he’s desperately trying to reverse the effects of his chemical formula that turned him invisible. With every failure he slowly descends into madness and is eventually consumed by the idea of reigning terror down on his native England, the cheeky monkey. Sounds more like he could’ve been my nemesis.

The Invisible Man was first adapted to the silver screen in 1933 and was a pivotal horror film of the 1930s. Since then the story has been retold countless times and it was probably only a matter of time until a slots provider would release a game based it.

NetEnt unveiled The Invisible Man in December 2014 and it quickly became one of my favourite games in the horror genre. It took the walking wild mechanic to new heights with the possibility of the bonus symbol moving from both left to right and right to left. And as long as you have any walking wild active on the screen, you’re respinning for free. In the game this illustrates the police chasing The Invisible Man and when the two symbols collide on any row you will be rewarded with 10 Free Spins.

During this bonus feature you have to collect enough wilds to get to the next stage. This could be either a three-level pick-me-bonus game with coins and win multipliers up to x4, or three Police Spins with five guaranteed random wilds before each spin. I dare you to walk in the shoes of The Invisible Man.

The Creature from the Black Lagoon

Out of the murk and mystery of a hundred million years ago, up from the depths of unknown waters comes a creature to confound science and terrorise the world! No, not Lucky! I’m speaking of The Creature from the Black Lagoon, a classic monster horror originally filmed in 3D and unleashed on the big screen in early 1954. It’s about a geology expedition that travels deep into the Amazonas where they uncover fossilised evidence of a link between land and sea animals, but that’s not all.

The creature is commonly referred to as “Gill Man” and was played by two different stuntmen. Ricou Browning, a professional diver and swimmer, donned the infamous suit for the underwater scenes with Ben Chapman taking over for when the creature was out of the water. Some of the more elaborate underwater shoots required Browning to hold his breath for up to 4 minutes at a time. I don’t want to brag but I once held my breath through an entire football match, waiting for Madron FC to score.

However, thanks to NetEnt you can tag along the expedition into the rainforest and hunt The Creature from the Black Lagoon. Sticky wilds and free respins will keep the action going and as long as sticky wilds keep landing anywhere on the reels, they keep spinning. The real fun begins when you trigger the Free Spins round.

The same rules apply for wilds during Free Spins so you’ll get your respins every time one hits. Aim for the creature with your harpoon to upgrade the sticky wilds to also become spreading wilds. If you manage to kill the creature you will get an additional 10 Free Spins where all wilds will spread horizontally in both directions. Happy hunting!

Dracula

Dracula. Just the name is enough to make me want to reach for silver, garlics, and crosses. Sprung from the wicked mind of Bram Stoker in 1897, the Transylvanian Count has appeared in many of my nightmares over the years. He has also been portrayed by more actors than any other horror character. But the most common image we’re stuck with is Bela Lugosi’s performance in 1931’s “Dracula.”

Loosely based on the 15th-century Wallachian Prince Vlad III The Impaler (yikes!), who was also known as Dracula. His rather peculiar epithet stemmed from his favourite thing to do, impale defeated enemies. The naughty bugger is said to have had 100,000 men, women, and children suffer this horrible fate.

You don’t have to worry about impalement when you come face to face with the world’s most famous blood sucker in NetEnt’s Dracula slot. At worst he will hiss, growl or snarl at you when you hit winning spins. He may randomly transform into bats and fly across the screen to transform a group of symbols into the same one, including the wild symbol.

To trigger the Free Spins feature you have to simultaneously land the stacked Dracula symbol on the second reel and the stacked Lady symbol on reel four. You start with 10 Free Spins but every time you get the fully stacked wild on reel three you’ll get an additional 2 Free Spins. The bat transformation feature activates before each spin during Free Spins.

Immortal Romance

Unravel the mysterious connections between the four main characters in Immortal Romance and learn their secrets. This vampire themed slot has been around since December 2011 and is definitely Microgaming’s best non-jackpot horror themed game in my humble opinion.

The slot follows four different characters: Amber, a descendent from a family of Caribbean witches, the unapologetic vampire Troy, Michael from the snow covered Europe and Sarah, a Doctor of Pathology dedicated to the study of cellular regeneration.

Their entire back stories are narrated in the “View Pays” section of the game. It’s definitely worth paying it a visit to find out the difference between each character’s round of free spins. There’s anything from win multipliers to spreading wilds and added chances to win, but you’ll know more once you check out the game’s Chamber of Spins.

The best feature in the game is called Wild Desire and can only be triggered randomly at the beginning of any spin and turn entire reels into wilds. With a whole bunch of luck you can get paid more than 72,000 coins if every reel goes wild and you’re playing at max bet level. Fangtastic!

7 Sins

Allow me to introduce you to the beautiful ladies known as the 7 Sins. In order of coin value they are: Greed, Lust, Wrath, Gluttony, Envy, Sloth and Vanity. It’s good that playing 7 Sins is not among the deadly ones so you’ll be quite safe. Unlike Brad Pitt who totally freaked out when Morgan Freeman refused to say “what’s in the box!?”

Play‘n Go released this 243-ways-to-win slot in November, 2016, and added a few innovative features to go along with the theme. For example, just because this is a 5-reel slot it doesn’t mean that you can’t get 7 symbols in a row. This is thanks to the double wild symbols on reels 2 and 4 during regular play.

Like most casino slots you have to hit three scatters (you’d never guess, but it’s a box) to trigger the Free Spins bonus, but even if you only get two there’s a second chance. The 7 Sins line up and you get to pick one. You could get the third scatter you were hoping for or up to a 15x winning multiplier on your total bet.

Free Spins in this game is quite different from anything you’ve seen before. You’ll have 7 spins, one for each lady, and with every spin the winning multiplier will grow. But that’s not all. The only symbol in play is the current lady who automatically covers the centre reel. Check this out, you can actually win up to 1,112x your bet in this feature.

Now that you know my favourite horror slots, why not let me know on Facebook which of our scary games you like the most.
