Roulette Sector Strategy

If you’re a roulette player, you will no doubt have come across countless different strategies. Many prefer banking strategies such as Martingale and Fibonacci, whereas some like to keep playing on straight-up bets – hoping for one big win, while others stick to lower-risk outside bets. There’s a roulette strategy to suit most types of players.

Here we will take a deeper look at the roulette sector strategy – how it works and what exactly it is.

What is a Roulette Sector Bet?

A roulette sector bet is a type of wager that involves putting your money on a specific sector or section of the Roulette wheel. Unlike traditional bets that are placed on individual numbers, sector bets cover a wide range of numbers.

Essentially, the roulette sector strategy means you put your money on a group of numbers that share a common characteristic or position on the Roulette wheel layout. These could be neighbouring numbers, such as the Voisins du Zéro (neighbours of zero) bet that covers a section of numbers surrounding the zero on the wheel. It could be the Tiers du Cylindre (thirds of the wheel) bet, which covers approximately one-third of the wheel, or the Orphelins (orphans) bet, which covers those not included in the Voisins or Tiers bets.

When playing roulette online, these let you cover even more of the wheel with one single wager – increasing the chances of winning. However, it also reduces the potential payout – because you have more chance of winning, the payouts obviously reflect this.

Ultimately, these bets can add variety and strategy to your gameplay, allowing you to customise exactly how you play to your risk tolerance, so you can play your way.

Here are some of the most common sector bets you can try out when you hit the live casino!

Jeu Zero

The Jeu Zero roulette bet, also known as the Zero Game bet, is found in numerous variants of roulette. This bet covers a selection of outcomes surrounding the zero on the roulette wheel – 12, 35, 3, 26, 0, 32, and 15.

This type of wager is usually made as a combination bet, covering multiple outcomes with one single wager. It consists of three split bets and one straight-up bet:

  • Split bets
  • 0-3
  • 12-15
  • 32-35
  • A straight-up on 26

This type of wager gives you a much higher chance of winning compared to some other bets – and is definitely worth a look if you are thinking of diversifying your betting strategies.

Voisins Du Zéro

Another sector bet is the Voisins Du Zero. This bet, also known as “Neighbors of Zero” in English involves placing a wager on a series of numbers located next to the zero on the roulette wheel. However, it covers even more than the Jeu Zero bet.

This one includes the following: 22, 18, 29, 7, 28, 12, 35, 3, 26, 0, 32, and 15. In total, it covers 17 numbers:

  • The nine to the left of the zero (22, 18, 29, 7, 28, 12, 35, 3, and 26)
  • The eight to the right of the zero (0, 32, 15, 19, 4, 21, 2, and 25)

This is achieved by splitting your wager into the following bets:

  • Splits: One unit on 4-7, 12-15, 18-21, 19-22, 32-35
  • Trios: Two units on 0-2-3
  • Corner: Two units on 22-26-28-29

Le Tiers du Cylindre

Le Tiers du Cylindre, translated as “Third of the Wheel” in English, is basically a type of roulette sector bet that involves placing bets on a specific section of numbers on the roulette wheel – covering a third of the wheel as the name suggests.

This type of wager covers approximately one-third of the wheel, specifically those located opposite zero (0):

  • It includes 27, 13, 36, 11, 30, 8, 23, 10, 5, 24, 16, and 33.

These are positioned in a way that they form about a rough third of the wheel when chosen together.

To place the Le Tiers du Cylindre bet, you would need to place your wager on the following split bets:

  • 5-8
  • 10-11
  • 13-16
  • 23-24
  • 27-30
  • 33-36

Orphelins

The Orphelins bet, translate to the ‘Orphans bet’ in English, is a sector bet that involves making bets on a total of eight numbers on the wheel, which are not covered by the Voisins du Zéro or the Tiers du Cylindre bets.

The numbers included in this sector bet are 17, 34, 6, 1, 20, 14, 31, and 9 – which are positioned randomly on the roulette wheel, usually with two orphans on one side of the wheel and the other six on the other side.

To make this bet, you need to split your total wager into the following:

  • Split: One unit on:
  • 6-9
  • 14-17
  • 17-20
  • 31-34
  • Straight up: Then one unit on 1

As you can see, the number 17 will be covered by 2 split bets.

Neighbours Roulette Bets

The Neighbours bet is a sector bet that is most commonly found in European and French roulette games.

When you place your Neighbours bet, you need to select a particular number on the roulette wheel and include the neighbouring numbers on either side of it. Generally, the bet covers a total of five numbers: the chosen number, two numbers to the left, and two numbers to the right.

So, for example, if you choose the number 5, your wager would also include numbers 24, 16, 10, and 23. However, the actual numbers you need to cover will vary depending on the layout of the roulette wheel.

This type of bet is an excellent way to bet on a small cluster of numbers on the roulette wheel – which will increase your chances of winning compared to making a single number bet – but because it doesn’t cover as many numbers as other sector bets, the payout can still be pretty decent.

Although most commonly you would choose 5 numbers, this type of wager is very flexible. You can cover three numbers, for more risk and bigger payouts or even 7 numbers if you want to minimise the risk even more.

If you play with a European wheel, it always has a 2.70% house edge – no matter which types of bets you play – and this applies to sector bets too. Basically, all sector bets are basically just regular bets but combined and made at the same time, with your stake split evenly between each different bet.
