The Biggest and Best Casinos in the World

As fun and convenient as it is to play at an online casino – like Rizk online casino NZ, sometimes you really do need to experience the thrill of a proper land-based, brick and mortar casino. These can be some of the most fantastically ornate and impressive buildings in the world. When you head over to one of the top casino establishments, it’s so much more than just a gambling experience. That’s just one of the facets – it’s also about the entertainment, dining and even spas and fitness.

In this blog article, we’re going to look at the biggest, best and most impressive real-life casino experiences in the world – so you can add them to, and then tick them off, your bucket list.

10: Casino Lisboa in Portugal

Surprisingly enough, our tenth position casino isn’t found in one of the most famous gambling regions. This 165,000 ft2 is actually located in Lisbon, Portugal – and is the largest casino in all of Europe. This wasn’t always the case, however. That title used to belong to Italy’s Casino de Campione – but it closed down in 2018 and Casino Lisboa took top spot. The casino has been around since 1993 and offers over 1,000 slot machines with around 22 casino table games – so there are plenty of options to choose from.

There are lots of reasons to visit Portugal, a beautiful country – and this is one of them.

9: MGM Grand in Las Vegas, USA

Now we are in more familiar casino territory. Our number nine casino is right at home in the very heart of gambling – in Sin City itself. MGM Grand is spread out over 171,000 ft2 entirely dedicated to casino and gaming. It has enough room for its players to have access to over 2,500 slot machines plus 139 table and poker games.

As Las Vegas is a popular gambling holiday destination, it comes as little surprise that it is also the biggest single hotel across the globe – with 6,852 luxurious rooms. This is famous, huge – and certainly one to visit on the most popular strips in the world.

8: Sands in Macau

For number 8, we head over to Macau, one of the most popular gambling destinations in the Far East. The Sands, Macau is set over 229,000 ft2 and was brought to us courtesy of Sheldon Adelson, the Casino legend behind the Las Vegas Sands casino. This was opened in May 2004 and was the first ever Las Vegas style casino establishment to open in Macau. In its sprawling grounds, visitors can enjoy around 1,254 different slot machines, as well as an excellent mix of European and Asian table games (although no poker games I might add!)

That being said, it will be impossible to have any kind of poker face if you visit this beauty!

7: Rio Casino Resort in South Africa

We head over to the African continent for number seven on our list. This massive casino is located in the Northwest Province of South Africa and offers over 260,000 ft2 of dedicated gaming space, making it the biggest casino in Africa.

The name and vibe of the casino comes from the Brazilian city that it is named after. Despite its size, there are only around 274 slots and 11 table games. However, if you do find yourself at a loose end, you can go on safari for even more thrills!

6: Ponte 16 in Macau

We go straight back to the Las Vegas of the Far East for our number 6 casino… Macau. This beautiful establishment sits right in the heart of the Inner Harbour, perched on the water’s edge. This beauty offers over 270,000 ft2 gaming space and is considered the best 5 star casino and hotel in the region. The casino’s hotel gives off a classic French-theme ambience, offering 408 rooms for games making a holiday of it.

This casino attracts lots of guests from China as it gives them the classic European vibe – without the 12 hour plane journey!

5: Wynn in Macau

Another Las Vegas favourite transported to the Asian shores of Macau. The Wynn Macau covers 273,000 ft2 and is operated by Wynn Resorts. The retired owner, Stephen Wynn, may be a controversial character, but he is the brain behind some of the most impressive casinos across the globe – not just the Wynn in Macau, but also The Mirage, Bellagio and the Golden Nugget. This man practically invented the modern casino experience!

This is exactly what you’d expect – opulent, grand and vast, offering one of the best casino experiences in the Far East. You will definitely want to hit some Wynns here.

4: Foxwoods Resort Casino, USA

No, number 4 may be in the USA – but it isn’t a Vegas casino. This is a tribal casino that is found 3 hours north of NY – in the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation. The casino and hotel is set over 9 million ft2 – with the educated gaming space covering 344,000 ft2. It is rammed with around 3,400 slots and almost 250 gaming tables.

This has been around for over 30 years, has attracted more than 330 million visitors and is definitely one of the best US casinos outside of Sin City.

3: City of Dreams in Macau

The casino of dreams is the City of Dreams casino in Macau. If you have already decided to head over to Macau based on what you’ve already read, then here’s another one to add to your list. This one is as modern as it gets – and is made up of three different casinos covering 420,000 ft2.

However, you may want to save up first – the dining options are Michelin star and not for those on a budget. However, you could just feed on the beauty of their incredible water extravaganza… the Dancing Water Theatre.

2: The Venetian in Macau

I know, you get it – Macau has lots of big casinos. Number two on our list is the Las Vegas inspired Venetian casino in Macau, built in 2007. This is big in every way. Firstly, the casino covers a massive 550,000 ft2, filled with 3,400 slot games and 800 gaming tables. As well as being the second biggest casino in the world, it is the biggest hotel in Asia, offering more than 3,000 rooms.

If you manage to get through all those games – then why not try out the Michelin starred restaurants, live arene – and go shopping at one of the 350 different shops.

1: Winstar World Casino in Oklahoma, USA

Number one does belong to the US – but surprisingly not Vegas! The largest casino in the world is found at the home of fried chicken! Covering a massive 600,000 ft2, you can literally spend all day and all night playing in the nine different gaming plazas on offer, stretching on for over one mile. It therefore comes as no surprise that there are over 10,000 games – and that’s just slots! Table games? Even more!

So, if you want to visit the top ten biggest casinos, you really will need to take a trip around the world – Europe, Asia, Africa and the US. That’s a lot of plane fares – and don’t forget to save some for the games! Before you go – check out our top casino facts to get yourself ready!
