Baseball Betting: How to Bet on Baseball

Baseball betting has long been a Canadian favourite, with the first official game taking place in 1838. The sport has exploded since then, becoming a global favourite in countless countries. MLB, also known as Major League Baseball, is by far the most popular baseball league. Amazingly, it is the oldest major professional sports league in the world, having been established 146 years ago in 1876.

MLB betting is one of our most popular options at Rizk, with an abundant variety of betting markets and games. Aside from Major League Baseball, the Nippon Professional Baseball league in Japan is also popular among bettors. There are also several Latin American leagues to check out during the MLB off-season.

Beginners and more experienced punters alike will enjoy MLB betting. Bet types include standard Moneyline and Over/Under options alongside specific variants like Run Line Bets and Grand Salami. Keep reading for everything you need to know regarding baseball betting odds and how to bet.

Baseball Betting Odds & Types

Bettors can enjoy several baseball betting options. Information about each variation can be found below:

Moneyline

Moneyline baseball bets are by far the most straightforward. Punters simply predict which team they think will win. Moneyline baseball betting odds are typically given in the US decimal format. For example, in a hypothetical game between the Atlanta Braves and New York Mets the odds might be:
,br> Atlanta Braves: +150
New York Mets: -100

New York Mets are the favourites, while the Atlanta Braves are the underdogs. To win $100 betting on the Mets you would have to wager $100. Meanwhile, placing the same stake on the Atlanta Braves would result in $150.

Over/Under

Over/Under MLB bets are another common variety. Here, punters bet on the total number of runs scored by both teams. You either bet “over” or “under”. The odds of each will be different. Here is an example of how they could work:

New York Mets vs. Atlanta Braves
OVER 10: -150
UNDER 10: +50

Betting over would require $150 to win $100, while betting under would need $50 to hit $100.

Run Line Bets

Run Line Bets are similar to Handicap or Point Spread betting in other sports. Unlike sports like tennis or football, the run line is always set at 1.5. It means the favourite must win by more than 1.5 runs for your wager to be successful. For example, if you bet on the New York Mets but they only won by a margin of 1 run you would be unsuccessful. Similarly, you could bet on the Atlanta Braves and win if they lost by a margin of less than 1.5.

Prop Bets

Prop bets are a fun way to bet on specific events during a baseball match. Thye cna refer to anything from the amount of home runs a batter will hit to the number of strike-outs from a particular pitcher.

Grand Salami

An exciting type of bet, Grand Salami allows bettors to predict the total number of runs across all games on the same day.
