What is Poker

Poker is a term used to describe slots of different games that are played with playing cards. Between these games, there are a lot of similarities but lots of differences too. The main aspects that all Poker games share are the hand rankings and the fact that betting occurs in rounds. The most popular form of Poker is Texas Hold 'Em, but other versions of the game, such as Five-card Draw Poker and Casino Hold 'Em, are also popular.

It's unclear when Poker was first created, and over the years, lots of different versions have been created. However, most people agree that the game was popularized in the United States in the early 19th Century.

How to Play Poker

The ultimate aim of any game of online Poker is to win your bet by forming the highest possible ranking hand with the cards you're dealt. The first round of betting begins with the forced bet, known as the blind or ante. This is set depending on the rules of the game and will rotate between players, with each player then needing to match the bet after receiving their cards.

After the first betting round, most versions of Poker will then show the first three community cards. The second round of betting will then begin, with players choosing to increase their bet, check or fold. To check is to take no action or match the current bet, while folding will discard the cards at no extra cost. Betting rounds continue until all players have matched the last bet or folded.

At the end of the betting rounds the remaining players reveal their hands. The winner is decided by whoever has the highest-ranking hand. Note that online Poker real money games that are played against the house are different from those played against other players and will often have different rules.

Types of Poker

There are many different types of Poker, all of which have different rules and ways to play. Some of the most popular types include:

• Texas Hold' Em – The most common type of Poker. This game is played between other players, with five community cards and normally three rounds of betting. You have to make the best hand using the two cards you're dealt and the community cards. Live Texas Hold 'Em is also available.
• Casino Hold 'Em – Like Texas Hold 'Em, you need to make the highest-ranking hand from your two cards and the community cards. However, you're playing against the casino rather than other players. At Rizk, the live casino section includes Live Casino Hold 'Em.
• Draw Poker – When you play draw Poker, you'll have a complete five-card hand dealt to you face down. After a round of betting, you'll be able to discard a certain number of cards to be dealt new ones, attempting to make a better hand.
• Video Poker – Video Poker is an electronic version of Poker that can be played on a machine, like slots. It's a version of draw Poker, where you are dealt five cards and can keep or discard cards to make the best possible hand.
• Live Online Poker – When you play Poker online, the game is controlled by RNG and actions are often completed by a computer. Live Poker gives you a more authentic experience, letting you play against a real dealer who uses real cards.
